How Would The Proposed “Reconciliation” Bill Benefit Green Card Applicants?
The current United States government is proposing a “Reconciliation” bill, that if passed, could benefit hopeful Green Card applicants who are from countries with backlogged priority dates to be able to move to the front of the line for a “supplemental fee.” This would be exempt from the current cap of Green Cards allowed to be issued for each country, which was originally in place to promote diversity within the immigration pool. Thus, this bill could allow for more international Registered Nurses from a variety of countries to successfully receive a Green Card and permanent resident status in the United States.
Currently (according to the September 2021 USCIS Visa Bulletin), citizens of the Philippines, Mexico, and all other countries (with the exception of China and India) have a priority date status of “current,” meaning that all applicants with a priority date from these countries are able to move forward with their Green Card application and immigration to the United States.
If this “Reconciliation” bill is passed, it would significantly benefit hopeful Green Card applicants, specifically from India and China. Currently citizens of India who have a priority date before March 2014 and citizens of China who have a priority date before July 2019 are being reviewed, demonstrating that there is a significant backlog for Green Cards for these two countries. However, if this bill passes, qualified Registered Nurse applicants from these two countries would be able to immigrate more quickly for exchange of the supplemental fee.
Medliant will be monitoring the status of this proposed bill and make an announcement if and when this bill is passed, which would then allow for applicants from India and China to move forward with successfully immigrating to the United States!
