OET Is Now An Accepted English Assessment In The USA For USRN Applicants

Medliant is excited to announce that according to OET, OET will now be an accepted English Assessment to meet the English requirement for international healthcare VisaScreen applicants seeking to immigrate and work in the USA! OET was approved by the US Department of Health and Human Services and is now in the process of being added to CGFNS International’s system for verification. Currently, CGFNS is the only organization approved by the US Department of Homeland Security to validate the credentials for international Registered Nurse applicants. This means that as a Medliant USRN applicant, you will soon be able to choose between OET, Academic IELTS, or TOEFL iBT as your English Assessment to acquire your CGFNS VisaScreen Certificate, Green Card Visa, and to immigrate to the USA.

What Is The OET English Assessment?

OET is considered the world’s leading English language test for healthcare workers and is comprised of four different testing sections. Registered Nurses from across the world will soon be able to use their OET results when applying for a US VisaScreen. Florida, Oregon, Washington, and Michigan currently accept OET, however, it is expected that OET will become widely accepted across the USA with this announcement.

Where Can OET Be Taken?

OET can be taken in person at more than 300 locations in more than 60 countries around the world.

What Are The Four Sections Of The OET?

  • Listening (approximately 45 minutes): You will follow and understand a variety of health-related spoken materials such as patient consultations and lectures.

  • Reading (60 minutes): You will read and understand different types of text on health-related subjects.

  • Writing (45 minutes): You will write a letter (e.g. referral letter, a letter of transfer or discharge, or a letter to advise or inform a patient, carer, or group).

  • Speaking (approximately 20 minutes): You will take part in two separate role-plays. You will take on your professional role (as a Registered Nurse) while the interlocutor will take on the role of a patient/client, or relative/carer.

What Is The Passing Score For OET, TOEFL iBT, And Academic IELTS?

  • OET: Grade C+ in Reading, Writing, and Listening; Grade B or higher in Speaking

  • TOEFL iBT: Total Score: 83; Speaking Section: 26

  • Academic IELTS: Overall Band Score: 6.5; Spoken Band: 7.0

When CGFNS announces if scores can or cannot be combined from two different OET tests, Medliant will make an announcement with these details.
