In the United States, the pathway from being a permanent resident (Green Card holder) to becoming a U.S. citizen involves several steps. Here’s a general overview of the process:
1. Maintain Permanent Residency
Residency Requirements: Ensure you maintain your status as a lawful permanent resident. This includes residing in the U.S., not abandoning your permanent resident status, and following the conditions of your residency.
2. Meet Eligibility Requirements
Residency Duration: Generally, you must have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years.
Physical Presence: You need to have been physically present in the U.S. for at least half of the 5-year period.
Continuous Residence: You must have maintained continuous residence in the U.S. and not have taken long trips abroad that might interrupt your residency.
