Tips For Passing The Academic IELTS
The Academic IELTS is one of two English Assessments accepted to prove English proficiency for USRN applicants who graduated from a Bachelor of Nursing Degree program that was not taught in English or for those who are immigrating from a primarily non-English speaking country. English proficiency is required to fulfill the VisaScreen and US immigration requirements for all USRN applicants.
To pass, an overall band score of 6.5 and 7 in speaking is required for the academic IELTS.
The Academic IELTS consists of four sections, which includes speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Here are a few tips for how you can succeed during each section of the Academic IELTS.
Speaking
Speak slowly and clearly with confidence
Directly answer the questions that are being asked
If needed, ask the examiner to repeat the question
You can continue to speak until you are stopped by the examiner
Vocabulary is only worth 25% of this section
Listening
Ensure that your headphones are working properly and that you are able to hear clearly (you can ask to have the volume adjusted if needed)
Read through the questions before the recording begins
Be mindful of the word limit for each response
Take notes during the recording as it will only be played once
Listen specifically for the answers to the questions
It is recommended that your answer is in all capitalized letters
Reading
If you do not understand a question, move on, and return to it later as there is a time limit
Carefully read through all details of text, images, and figures
Review the questions and focus on finding the details within the reading to answer them
Record your answers immediately as you will not have time to take notes and rewrite your answers later
It is recommended that your answer is in all capitalized letters
Writing
Be mindful of the time restraints and utilize 20 minutes for task one and 40 minutes for task two as this task is worth more marks
Ensure that you write a minimum of 150 words for task one and a minimum of 250 words for task two
A conclusion is needed for task two
Be precise and avoid repetition
Review your written responses for spelling and grammar mistakes before you submit them
