Medliant USRN Academic IELTS Preparation: Listening Section

Preparing for the listening section of the Academic IELTS can feel like a daunting task. However, with preparation and the right strategies and techniques, you can pass the listening section and get the required band score that you need to immigrate to the USA (6.5 bands overall and 7 bands in speaking)!

The Academic listening section is comprised of four parts and will take 30 minutes to complete. According to IELTS, the listening section "assesses your ability to understand main ideas, detailed information, opinions, purpose and attitudes of the speakers, as well as your ability to follow the development of ideas."

Here are five tips to help you prepare for and pass the Academic IELTS listening section:

1. Familiarize yourself with the format of the IELTS listening section: Knowing the structure of the test and the types of questions you will be asked can help you better prepare for the test. The listening section is composed of four recordings and 40 questions. Two of the recordings will focus on everyday situations that you may experience, while the other two will focus on situations that may occur in an education or training environment.

2. Practice listening to English audio recordings: This will help you become more familiar with the language and the different accents you may encounter on the test. Be sure to practice listening to the different types of recordings that you will hear. Recordings one and three of this section will be a conversation between two or more speakers, while recordings two and four will be a monologue.

3. Take practice tests: Taking practice tests will help you become more familiar with the types of questions that you will be asked and the format of the test itself.

4. Pay attention to details: The listening section of the IELTS is all about paying attention to details. Make sure you are listening carefully and taking notes as you go.

5. Don’t be afraid to guess: If you are unsure of an answer, it is better to guess than to leave it blank.

By following these five tips, you can be sure to ace the listening section of the Academic IELTS and move closer to living your America Dream as a Medliant USRN!
